due to self guilt and semi PMS, I decided to do something productive with my time. I've stopped studying for the GMAT, b/c the weakness in my application to MBA is not my score or gpa, it's my work experience. 2 years don't cut it in the MBA world. so I decided to work harder and try to get promoted next year. Geez, 1 more year of this crap. Sigh... with GMAT out of my mind, I've been just playing and totally letting myself go. I had a phone conversation with my mom yesterday (you know it's Asian mother when you heard me say "self guilt"). Nothing like a Chinese mom to make you feel like a piece of shit. I'll spare you the stuff she said, normal human should not be hearing it. but i'm a super woman, so I'm used to the abuse.
So today I came in the office, went to a meeting with a bunch of external auditors, who came to the meeting LATE.. AND he had a circle band-aid on his cheek to cover a cut from his shaving accident. They asked a few really stupid questions in the meeting and none of them were taking notes. Then it hit me, there are so many less-smarter people than me out there, that's less professional, and in a job that even an outsider hates. Sitting through that meeting was painful, trying to hold back my laugh and not push back on their super "open ended" questions. Clearly, they don't know what they fuck they are doing.
Came back to my desk, did some work and then I was thinking, maybe I should go take a class to make myself smarter. I thought about makeup classes or photography classes, b/c I want to have a "hobby", a real hobby, you know? I want to be one of those people who drive 100 miles out the city to some moutain, bust out their SLR camera and shooting away. They just look so focused and intrigued. I want that! But my loser self was afraid my angry Chinese mother was going to call me a dumb ass again for wasting money to learn some useless "hobby", I ended up registering a Global Financial Markets and the Fed class from NYU.
Am I interested in that subject? yes I am. I love learning about international financial markets and how financial crisis happen, and what the market do to react to crisis. by the way, we are in a crisis, and the Fed has been lowering interest rates to boost economy, however, with lower rates, foreign markets are not investing in the US, b/c the rate of return is too low, so that's actually slow the economy too. You know the saying, if US sneezes, everybody catches a cold.
$575 registration fee later. I thought, the next time my mom calls me, I can tell her I'm taking a course at NYU.. N...Y..UUUUUU...!!! big name schoool, wooooooowwww... so she can go tell her friends and show off. I guess it's a good thing for me anyways. It's from Sept to Nov, every thursday from 6:30 to 8:30. At least I have something to do after work, and Henry can take care of Daisy when I'm in class. I used to be not to do anything after work, b/c I have to go home to walk Daisy. Now that H's here, I'm good to go. Plus this will look good on my MBA application, shows them I went above and beyond to better myself and shows them I am proactive in my own career interest, bluh bluh bluh... sigh.. The things we do, to make our dreams come true.
I guess my "hobby" classes is going to have to wait. I will one day take photography classes, just not yet. I always feel like I'm trapped. I want to do something, but I can't, maybe I'm just finding excuses for myself. I want to do something after work, I have to go home and walk Daisy, after I've walked Daisy I'm in NJ already, I'm not going to spend more money to come back to NYC. Or I can't do it, b/c I want to spend more time with H and Daisy. Whenever I'm not home, I feel bad that I leave them two at home alone. I don't know. dilemmas.
